What is the difference between "One-of-a-Kind", "Limited Artist's Edition" or "Large or Unlimited Edition" babies?All babies start out as a sculpture in clay, taking weeks to complete. Some babies stay as this "One-of-a-Kind" sculpture. This makes them the rarest of all of the kinds, being only one available worldwide. To become an edition, some select babies are then sent to a moldmaker who casts the sculpture into resin. This resin baby is then hand painted and hair is applied, and all the details are completed to be exactly like the original sculpture. This is called a Limited Artist's Edition, as they are each hand painted and finished by Camille Allen. Large Edition (50+) or Unlimited Edition babies are cast into resin and painted by a manufacturer.
There are three different tiers of dolls made in different ways. The "One of a Kind" babies stay as the original sculpture in clay that takes weeks to sculpt. These cost $1200 and up, due to the time required to sculpt. Next comes the smaller Limited Editions. These are cast into resin, and the resin copies are then hand finished by the artist, taking about a 3 - 5 days to build up the layers of paint and apply the hair strand by strand. These babies cost $300-600. The Larger edition babies are replicas of Camille Allen's Originals made by a manufacturer in China and are most affordable at $99 - $120. (For those who disapprove of China products, please note that there are no N. American manufacturers available for this type of miniature work).
